I have closed my google adwords campaign and google analytics. Summary as follows:
I have learned a few key factors in regards to internet marketing.
- Internet market can be used as a very valuable tool when the right products/services are involved
- Internet marketing is a new method to increasing sales and should not be overlooked. Billions of people around the world use the internet
- Google adwords is a simple and effective tool to place advertisements on the internet (e.g. google search and webpages related to advertisement).
- Relevance is a key factor in increasing ad score
- Google analytics is another powerful tool to get more in-depth consumer information, including clicks by region, views by region, keyword searches, etc.
- There are MANY other marketing tools online that I am further investigating
- Increasing clicks doesn't necessarily mean increased conversions, but is a key factor
- Different adgroups and advertisements realize different results. Experimentation is the only way to find out what works best.
- When I focused in on certain keywords, I received more clicks. Adgroup #2 was more successful.0
Clicks: 70
Impressions: 149,000
CTR: .21% (24 clicks)
CTR Display Network: .03% (46 clicks)
Ave. cpc: $.35
Cost for campaign: $24.97
Startup cost: $5
Ave. Pos.: 4.5
State with the most clicks: Texas
Country with the most clicks: USA, but Canada was close second
Overall this has been a worthwhile project and helped me understand internet market a lot better.
Week of June 20 - 26, 2010
I have been monitoring my performance this week. Unfortunately I am almost out of funds ($30 in 4 weeks). So far I have received 70 clicks, increased my cpc to .18%, maintained an average quality score of 6, and I started an account with Google analytics so I can get more information for people viewing the webpage.
Task Completed: Started google analytics, increased CPC to .18%
Progress Made: I am getting close to finishing this project because the funding is running out.
I have learned that there is a large presence of internet marketing. What used to be considered a foolish investment by some, is now considered a great investment by many. I am surprised at how useful internet marketing can be. I am not been able to set up a conversion rate, but based on the number of clicks I imagine that it would be pretty low.
Week of June 13 - June 19
This week I was able to make adjustments to the campaign by creating additional adgroups and creating new ads. I have found that I have received over 50 clicks and my funding of $30 is running low! I'm amazed at how fast I am receiving clicks.
Task Completed: Created new adgroup and ads
Progress Made: My campaign is getting more effective. The number of clicks I am receiving is increasing and my CTR (Click-Through-Rate) is improving.
What I learned: I learned my budget is decreasing rapidly, and effective advertising means more clicks
Week of
June 6 - June 12
Recognizing the little value in performing market research in the energy industry, I received permission from Bro. Bell to change this project. My new project is going to be an online internet campaign using PPC (pay per click).
I have already started my online campaign using Google Adwords and using $30 I will try and receive as many clicks as possible.
Tasks Completed: Created the online ads campaign using Google Adwords. Set up my account, created an ad, and created 2 adgroups. So far I have one click. I am using a family members blog as my landing page.
Progress Made: Everything I have done so far is progress, being the first week it has been up and running. After the first few days I noticed that I had not received any clicks. So I decided to change my advertisements, pause a few keywords, and add others.
I have learned that it isn't easy to receive clicks! I have also learned the value of PPC and Organic searches.
Week of May 15 - 22
I am no longer an employee of Synergy Companies. While my research was geared towards finding information that would help me in the field of energy efficiency, I have decided to push forward with this Improvement Project so I can learn more about Market Research. While the content of my findings may not be as relevant now, the imlementation will surely be beneficial.
Outline:
Gather data from surveys (Quantitative)
Gather data from in-depth interviews (Qualitative)
Gather data from internet sources
Put together a report of the findings.
Week of May 8 - 16
Possible Survey/In depth Interview Questions:
Do you know a basic definition of the term energy efficiency?
Do you know what "going green" means? What does it mean to you?
Do you consider yourself an energy minded person?
What are some things you do that supports energy efficiency?
What purchases have you made that contribute to energy efficiency?
Do you know what CFLS's are? Have you purchased any?
Do you know what low flow -aerators are? Have you purchased any?
Do you know what low flow shower heads are? Have you purchased any?
Tell me what you know about Solar energy:
Are you typically concerned about the environment, particularly preserving the environment?

#2. Energy Efficiency Market Research - Outline
The intent of this project is to help me understand how to perform market research. Working for Synergy Companies, I have always wondered what types of people perform energy efficiency measures. I have always wondered what makes people "go green" and how to effectively segment and target these individuals.
- Perform internet research on market trends and energy efficiency statistics
- Learn what types of energy reducing products and services are on the market
- Learn what types of consumers are pursuing energy efficient lives
- Setup focus groups
- Create surveys
